Back in 1976, the concept of a retirement village did not exist. There were none. Greenways, in fact, was the first private, resident-funded retirement village in Victoria.
It was built in stages, with stage 1 (units 1 – 15) being released in 1976. Then stage 2 – another 41 units and the community centre – following in 1979. With the village evolving ever since. Newer units at 33 Pimpala and 8 Lombard the latest. Greenways is now 127 homes and counting!
It’s a fantastic history. And one the village is very proud of.
Residents joined village directors and owners to celebrate 50 years of Greenways for a party in the newly-refurbished community centre. With over 80 people in attendance, Greenways marked the occasion with a special ‘50th’ cake and drinks, nibbles and entertainment throughout the afternoon. What a celebration!
As they say, villages are ‘more than bricks and mortar’. And over the 5 decades, Greenways has been home to over 700 residents. It’s those residents who have made Greenways such a unique, happy, welcoming, supportive and thriving village community.
So, as we wish our great village a “happy 50th birthday”, more importantly, we thank all of our residents, past and present, for making Greenways what it is today. Here’s to 50 more incredible years at Greenways!
